Cleaning with no preparations
Nowadays there are plenty of carpet cleaning shampoos, detergents and cleansers, but the most effective of them are usually too expensive, not to forget that they contain very strong chemicals, which are not recommended for every day usage. Luckly you can clean with some stuff, that can be found in every home:
Baking Soda
Soda is pure gold in DIY carpet cleaning. If there is a vomit or a pet accident you can easily clean it using baking soda. Wet the spot with hot water, put small amount of soda on a sponge and scrub gently. Brush the spot carefully. Vacuum the carpet after it dries. Using soda you can also remove the smell from pet accidents. After cleaning the carpet apply a thin layer of baking soda. Let the carpet dry, then vacuum. Once a month sprinkle carpets with mixture of baking soda and dried herbs – lavender, rosemary, chamomile, cinnamon, cloves, etc . Let it stay overnight and then vacuum. This replaces regular carpet freshener.
Salt
The best way to take out a greasy stain of your carpet is using paste made of 1 part salt, 4 parts ethyl alcohol. Rub firmly onto the spot, wait until the alcohol dries and vacuum.
Vinegar
White Vinegar is the perfect stain remover. It is very effective for food and drink stains such as coffee, tea, wine, chocolate and mustard. Vinegar removes grass stains as well. Make a solution of 1 part white vinegar, two parts cold water. Flush the stains with the solution and leave the spot like this for few minutes. Take paper towel and absorb. Repeat again if necessary. Leave it to dry on it’s own, the smell of the vinegar will disappear as the solution evaporates.
